A day seminar on Insurance Industry in Nepal Prospects and Challenges

A seminar was organized by Study Group for Banking and Insurance, School of Business Pokhara University, Ajod Insurance Company and Reliable Nepal Life Insurance Company on 29th Poush 2076 (14th Jan 2020) at City Square Banquet and Restaurant, Pokhara.

Study Group for Banking and Insurance was established by the students of BBA-BI, School of Business to impart the knowledge of students through interaction with the professionals and experts of the banking and insurance sector, and share the experience of the executives and professionals. The group organizes different program like interaction, seminar, workshop, and guest lecture time to time.

The one day seminar on Insurance Industry in Nepal Prospects and Challenges was organized for the students of BBA and BBA-BI to make familiar about the current status of insurance industry in Nepal, its future prospects and challenges ahead. There were three technical session on life insurance, nonlife insurance, and claims settlement. Last session was interactive session where participants raised different issues, put forth queries on insurance industry and their career perspectives. Resource persons tried to give answer of each and every queries. The program was concluded by chair of the program with vote of thanks.

First session

The session was taken by Narayan Babu Lohani, expert in life insurance. He explained about the current scenario of life insurance market, products available for the customers, and the opportunities and challenges to life insurers. He also discussed the importance of life insurance to persons, family, society and economy.  He answered the questions asked by the participants.

Second session

The subject matter of the second session was related to nonlife insurance products and current scenario. Mr. Surendra Thapa, deputy CEO of Ajod and one of the renown motivational speaker. He highlighted current status of nonlife insurance market, changing need of customers towards the insurance products, and the opportunities and challenges to nonlife insurers. He also discussed the career opportunity of students in insurance sector and suggested some tips how to enter into insurance company as a employees, and how to be a competent professional in insurance industry. He replied the queries raised by the participants.

Third Session

Third session was related to claims settlement and the role of surveyors in nonlife insurance claims settlement. He covered the issues on legal provision and common practices on claim settlement in insurance. He discussed theory as well as practice of claims settlement with many examples. He focused on how the conflict arise between clients and company while settle the claims.  He responded the queries raised by the students.

Fourth Session

The fourth session was more interactive. It was like an interaction between students and industry.  All resource persons from life insurance, nonlife insurance, insurance education sector and participants discussed on various issues that raised by the participants very rigorously. Resource persons were Narayan Babu Lohani, Surendra Thapa, Gopal Pokharel, Saroj Adhikari from industry, Dr. Rabindra Ghimire and Ravindra Prasad Baral from academic sector.
